Peter Aerts vs. Tyrone Spong

Someone just made a statement. It’s Showtime 58.

Glory might have just replaced K-1 as the top dog in kickboxing, as they just purchased It’s Showtime.

The Jab by Don Familton’s Superior Boxing (RIP)

Now I don’t advocate training at home (I mean self-training, not extra practice), for all the reasons listed here, but some of you gym rats out there who think because you can bench 350+ pounds that you know how to fight are starting to get ridiculous. It’s pretty funny, especially when you go to the bag and get gassed after winging looping punches for 10 seconds.

Anyway, this video is the first boxing video I’ll be posting by the late Don Familton, from his series Don Familton’s Superior Boxing (a great series for exploring the fundamentals of boxing), explaining the very first punch any beginner should know, the Jab. The set-up punch, the measure punch, the distraction, and the marines of punches (it should be the first punch to see action in a combo, at least most of the time). It is also the most underused strike in mma. Again, these videos are no substitute for real, hands on instruction. If you’re serious about learning you should join a gym. That being said, it you can’t afford one or just want some more information to supplement your knowledge gained from the gym, this series is for you.

Rest in Peace to Don Familton
